Ian Rankin's "Rebus" series are cool, they're about a detective in Scotland who works on numerous cases, often cases that are not actually considered to be cases by his superiors. The second one, for instance, looked like a junkie had OD'd and died, but it actually led into a huge conspiracy that involved most of Edinburgh's "higher-ups" being involved in an illegal club whereby rentboy's desperate for money are forced to fight each other in savage no-holds-barred boxing matches. Nicely set alongside another actual investigation the police are doing into dog fighting, they are prosecuting dog fighters but covering up for people doing the same thing with humans, simply because those people are rich... The others in the series are cool too though. 'specially "Tooth and Nail", or "Wolfman" as its known in some places

I've mostly been reading a bunch of stuff by Robin Hobb (Farseer series, Soldier's Son series) and Terry Pratchett (everything focusing on the Night Watch) lately. And, scary as it may sound, I've actually started reading the Bible recently (for the first time ever), have already worked my way through Genesis, Exodus and Leviticus.

As for a more specific book rec -- try The name of the wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I read that a while ago and rather liked it.

If anyone happens across this page, I'd like to mention that Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games is an awesome book, and you should all read it and love it like I do.

-Semmy delurks just to post about this. Woohoo, try to contain your excitement.
