Post We have GoogleAds.
You see these text style GoogleAds everywhere these days, which made me wonder if they really generated that much money. Point is, I went through Google's AdSense FAQ, and they don't specify how much you get for the ads, so I decided it'd be best to just try it out. I noticed I get about 8000 pageviews each month, most of which are probably through the Closet, so if the cost per 1000 impressions is high, it could be nice.

The ads are located at the bottom of the page, so they shouldn't be too intrusive. Besides, I don't like banners, but text ads are not so bad. I'm not asking to go clicking these on purpose or anything (though you are allowed to if you actually see something interesting, obviously; I believe the cost per click is a bunch higher than the cost per impression :p) -- if I really get as many pageviews as the stats thing tells me and it has a high payout, it should be interesting. (In the making an extra few bucks a month sense, that is. Not in the making a living sense. :p) If I do unexpectedly make a bunch of money off these things, I'll do a free item giveaway or something. ^^

...wow. Well, I certainly wasn't expecting THIS. I had a little over 300 pageviews today, which is fairly normal considering the 8k a month my stats thingy tells me I have on average. That means a little over 300 ad impressions. Now get this.

The CPM is more than $3, instead of the couple cents I was expecting, meaning I made about $1 ($0.97 to be exact) just the first day. O_O

If it continues like that it'd be $30 a month... and I only pay about $13 for hosting the site. That'd be pretty cool. :p And that would definitely mean a free item raffle for you guys, or something like that.

Seems pretty good. Do these change according to what people are posting, like the ones on Invisionfree do?

As far as I know it collects a bunch of keywords on the page and bases the ads on that. So kinda, yeah.

When I'd just installed them, I went to the front page and had all these ads about cows. So I was like wth? What does my comic/lgbt forum have to do with cows? Then I noticed Moo was listed as the most recent poster in three of the five forums. :p

I've also seen several ads in (what I presume to be) Dutch.

Well, that's odd. I mean, I get Dutch ads too, but that makes sense... it's supposed to do that keyword thing to determine which ads to show in general, then check the IP of the user currently viewing the page, and display the ads in what's probably the user's language, based on their country, based on their IP. Maybe it has a bias towards Dutch ads because the website is also in the Netherlands, considering the .nl domain and all?

I get the Dutch ads too, although it's usually only one of them. I've also gotten a couple in German, and one in Spanish o.O
*shrug* Either way, I click on them all so Tanc can make more money ^_^ ... Sometimes they're even interesting too. ^_^

... Although I do have a concern. A lot of the sites that I've frequented have done the GoogleAds thing too, and they always end up losing them, because they start making a little money, and then Google pulls the ads, saying that there's a problem with their website, that the people that run the site did something wrong, etc. etc. ... and they never end up getting their share of the money. I just hope they don't do it to you ^^;;

~Kristian
...I refreshed the page, and all of the ads change to Tootsie pop and candy ads ^_^ (I love my sig...)

... and now it's running a set of ads for pay-per-click advertising.

So let me get this right... if I use the google bar to search you get money? or is it only by using the ads?

I get money for a couple different things: people viewing the ads*, people clicking the ads, and if you use the google box to search and then click one of the ad-links instead of the other search results. *Although if a day goes by and no-one has clicked an ad, I don't get money for the views either. I think it works like this: it determines the ads viewed/ads clicked ratio, establishes a price-per-view for that day based on that ratio, and multiplies it by the number of views -- except for when the ratio gets too high, and it assumes it's so high because people clicked the ads on purpose instead of out of interest.

So if I click on things that kinda interest me, and only if I click around on that site, do you get money? Or doesn't it matter if I click around on the site, and only matters if I click on the link? ^^;;

Whee, questions.

I don't see how it could track what you do on the linked sites in any way. So clicking around on there probably doesn't matter, just clicking the links. ^^

I just thought I'd share the results from the first month with you, now that it's June 1st. Okay, it's not an entire month since we only started on the eleventh, but hey.

If you're wondering why the number of pageviews suddenly went up so much, it's because I installed a second forum which was then linked to a very large site with literally tens of thousands of members, and a couple dozen of them are using it now. When uploading the files for the new forum, I accidentally uploaded the footer from this board with Googleads included, and didn't bother to remove them. ^^

Just a quick update to those of you who wonder if the ads are still doing their job; there haven't been as many clicks of late as there used to be just after I got them, but the money is still trickling in. I haven't reached $100 yet, but we're getting there -- it's at about $89 now, and I have been able to do the snailmail verification thing already (which you are eligible for once you reach $50), so I can actually receive payment if it reaches $100. :)

This has only just started happening to me as well. Only in the past week or so. There's a big black gap where they used to be.

You mean this letter?

Quote:
Hello Laura Broenink,

It has come to our attention that invalid clicks have been generated on

AdSense account. Please understand that this step was taken in an
effort to protect the interest of the AdWords advertisers.

A publisher's site may not have invalid clicks on any ad(s), including
but not limited to clicks generated by a publisher on his own web
pages, clicks generated through the use of robots, automated clicking
tools, or any other deceptive software.

Practices such as these are in violation of the Google AdSense Terms

Publishers disabled for invalid click activity are not allowed further

earnings on your account will be properly returned to the affected

I got that the day after I posted about already having $89. -.- Sneaky bastards.

Sorry, Tanc... *pats* I wonder if anyone, anywhere, who isn't a huge corporation with resources to "verify clicks" or some such nonsense, has ever received money for GoogleAds. O.o

Just wondering, given that we no longer have GoogleAds, can we get rid of the Google search bar? It looks a bit out of place against the grey background.

Nice fun rape porn!

Isn't there some way you could set up a validation system, where someone signing up has to receive an e-mail and do something else in order activate his account? There has to be some way to filter out the bots.
