Sleek Au Naturel palette (Nude Collection)

My beloved Sleek Dip-it eyeliner has run out. Well, it wasn't entirely gone yet, I suppose, but getting very close; it was starting to become quite dry and unpigmented, and the bottle felt nearly empty. So, it was time to order a replacement, and this seemed like the perfect excuse to get the new Au Naturel palette from the Sleek Nude Collection as well. ;)

While I love blues and greens and other vibrant colours, for day-to-day looks I always find myself defaulting to neutral-ish earthy tones. As a result, the matte brown in my Storm palette and dark taupe in the Bohemian palette are nearly gone, and I've hit pan on the light brown and shimmery auburnish brown from Storm, too, as well as the shimmery brown from the Safari palette.

I dropped my Storm palette once, so its mirror is all shattered :( Also, I accidentally destroyed the shimmery red from Bohemian at some point... it's not like that was my #1 favourite colour or anything.

So. A whole palette made up of nude colours and earthy browns? Yes, please! I ordered the palette (plus my replacement liner) on Friday afternoon, and by Saturday morning, it had already been dropped in my mailbox. Awesome job, Alice & Jo!

The outside is the same as most other Sleek palettes: matte black plastic with a glossy print. The only difference is that this palette lists its type on the front (lower right corner), rather than only on the back like the other palettes.

The shades! Nougat, Nubuck, Cappuccino, Honeycomb, Toast, Taupe, Conker, Moss, Bark, Mineral Earth, Regal, Noir. Is it just me, or is Taupe a rather odd name for that shade? Unlike the other names, which are just words, "taupe" is an actual colour name, and that colour definitely isn't some sort of champagne-type shade. Huh.

A better view of the eye shadows, without the plastic covering, in natural light. See, what Sleek have decided to call Regal actually is pretty close to taupe. Okay, okay, I'll shut up about this now. I just don't get it, is all.

And again, this time with flash, which brings out the shimmer better. Taupe, Conker, Moss and Mineral Earth are shimmery shades while the rest are mattes.

Swatch time! This is the top row: Nougat, which is an off-white that will probably work well as a highlighter. Nubuck, a light, nude-ish greige. The pigmentation for this shade isn't worse than the others, it's just rather close to my own skin tone. Cappuccino -- now this is an appropriate name, because it's almost the exact colour of a cup of milky coffee, after stirring. Honeycomb and Toast are both fairly similar to Cappuccino, with Honeycomb being a slightly more yellow variation, and Toast a slightly warmer, more reddish shade. But as you can see from the swatches, there isn't a huge difference between these three shades. Finally, there's Taupe, which is essentially the shimmer version of Toast. As is typical for Sleek palettes, the shimmer shade is a lot creamier and a bit more pigmented than the matte shades.

Oooh. While the upper half of the palette will be good for highlighting and lighter lid accents, this is the side of the palette that makes me particularly happy. Usually, with a Sleek palette, I have 2 or 3 favourites that I use a lot, and largely ignore the other colours... but this time, I can actually see myself using up the entire bottom row.

Conker is a gorgeous shimmery medium brown. This shade seems to be about midway between the reddish toned brown shimmer from Storm and the yellow toned brown shimmer from Safari. Moss is lighter and has very subtle green undertones. Bark is matte dark brown, plain and simple. I think this might actually be the exact same shade as the matte dark brown from Storm (Sleek didn't name their colours back then), though I haven't done a side-by-side comparison. I don't mind if it is, though; as I showed above, that shade is almost entirely gone! I had expected Mineral Earth to be a very dark shade, but it's actually basically just a shimmery version of Bark. Regal is a slightly purplish dark greige (hence, pretty much my definition of taupe...), and doesn't seem to be quite as heavily pigmented as the other shades. Finally, there's Noir, the shade that is present in every Sleek palette: basic matte black. The Noir in Au Naturel is very heavily pigmented! I think it might actually rival my beloved Noir-from-Bohemian.

I love this palette. The top row has very nice, light colours in case you're looking to make a true nude look, and then the bottom row has gorgeous warm dark browns to make things a bit heavier and smokier. I can definitely see myself using this a lot in the near future!

Sleek eyeshadow palettes are sold for around £5 in Superdrug stores, or online for about €7 - €9.
