Nfu Oh #51 – review and swatches

Wow, this shade changes colours like crazy! First there's the base. I originally thought this was a red-based purple, because indoors, that's what it looks like. Outside, however, it appears to be more of a blue-based purple. And when you're indoors but with artificial light only, the purple becomes a very deep, almost blackish shade.
It's also pretty sheer, but not to the extent that #49 was. This shade has a definite purple base to it; with one coat it's a sheer purple, but a purple nonetheless, and with three you have a completely solid purple base. The formula on this was thicker than on #49, even a little jelly-ish. What with the sheer-yet-purpleness, this makes it pretty hard to apply a single coat without it ending up streaky.
And then there's the flakies, of course. Unlike #49, it appears that #51 doesn't just have flakies, but there's some regular microglitter in there as well. At first, I thought this was a pretty solid hot pink kind of colour, because that's what it looked like both out in the sun and indoors under artificial lighting. It wasn't until I'd been wearing the polish for several hours, and happened to be indoors but close to a window (so, bright white light, but no direct sun) that the flakies suddenly flashed a bright teal green! The green only shows up when the light hits it at just the right angle, but then it's definitely there.
Right, well, how about, instead of describing the colour in words, I show you some actual photos?
On its own: three coats of Nfu Oh #51 (over Trind Nail Repair as a base coat)
Three coats over China Glaze Midnight Ride. This angle shows off the green flakies.
Same from a different angle: lots of pink flakies and glitter.
